SUMMARY:39th SASE Annual Conference 2027
DESCRIPTION:Glasgow (Scotland) | 30 June – 3 July 2027\nRebuilding Foundations and Hope: Creative Reconstruction in a Moment of Disruption \n\nThe 39th Annual Conference of the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE) will be held at the University of Strathclyde\, in Glasgow\, Scotland\, from 30 June to 3 July 2027. The conference will also include virtual events from 16 to 18 June 2027. \nUnder the theme Rebuilding Foundations and Hope: Creative Reconstruction in a Moment of Disruption\, SASE 2027 will examine the profound economic\, political and social transformations affecting contemporary societies and explore how institutions\, communities and collective actors are responding to current processes of disruption. \nThe conference will address challenges including growing economic inequality\, pressures on social protection and workers’ collective rights\, financialisation\, climate change\, transformations in global trade\, migration and the concentration of economic power. Particular attention will be paid to initiatives aimed at rebuilding institutional and social foundations capable of promoting shared prosperity and democratic resilience. \nSASE provides an interdisciplinary forum for researchers working across sociology\, political economy\, economics and related social sciences. Its research networks cover a broad range of areas including labour markets and employment\, comparative capitalisms\, gender\, work and family\, digital economy\, regulation of work\, global value chains\, inequality\, governance and socio-economic development. \nThe 2027 conference will combine the permanent SASE research networks with thematic mini-conferences\, providing a space for international and comparative research and dialogue on the changing relationship between economy\, institutions and society. \nSASE 2027 will be chaired by SASE President Marc Schneiberg. DESCRIPTION:Gwangju (Republic of Korea) | 4 – 10 July 2027\nGlobal Sociology in Turbulent Times \n\nThe 21st World Congress of Sociology of the International Sociological Association (ISA) will be held in Gwangju\, Republic of Korea\, from 4 to 10 July 2027. \nUnder the theme Global Sociology in Turbulent Times\, the Congress will bring together sociologists from around the world to examine the profound social\, political and economic transformations shaping contemporary societies and to discuss the role of sociology in understanding and responding to a period of global uncertainty and change. \nThe ISA World Congress of Sociology is one of the largest international gatherings in the discipline. Its scientific programme brings together the ISA Research Committees\, Working Groups and Thematic Groups\, covering a broad range of fields and providing a major space for international exchange\, comparative research and interdisciplinary debate. \nThe Congress will address a wide range of sociological perspectives and contemporary challenges\, including transformations in work and employment\, social inequalities\, economic and political change\, migration\, gender\, organisations\, social movements and collective action\, among many other areas of sociological research. \nThe 2027 Congress will be held entirely on-site in Gwangju. The Call for Abstracts will be open from 3 August to 14 October 2026.
