7th Fairness at Work Conference 2027

Manchester (United Kingdom) | 20 – 21 January 2027
Challenges for Fair Work and Equality in an Age of Transformation
The Work and Equalities Institute (WEI) will hold its Seventh Fairness at Work (Fairwrc) Conference at Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester, on 20 and 21 January 2027. The conference forms part of the Institute’s 10th anniversary celebrations.
Under the theme Challenges for Fair Work and Equality in an Age of Transformation, the conference will examine how rapid technological change, environmental transition, demographic shifts and evolving forms of employment and organisation are reshaping the world of work.
These transformations raise important questions around fairness, equality, wellbeing, worker voice and the future of decent work. The conference will provide a multidisciplinary space for academics and practitioners to discuss how institutions, policies and workplace practices can respond to these challenges and contribute to fairer and more inclusive futures.
The programme will be organised around interconnected challenges drawing on WEI’s main research themes: work futures; fairness and wellbeing in the workplace; equality, diversity and inclusion; and regulation and representation.
The conference aims to connect research and practice and to encourage dialogue around concrete initiatives, commitments and forms of accountability capable of advancing fairness at work. These debates are considered in relation not only to social justice, but also to sustainable economic development, inclusive growth and democratic renewal.
Further details on the programme and speakers will be announced shortly.
