Update of the study “The Sticky Floor of Women in the City of Barcelona”

The sticky floor concept captures women’s labour market experience. This term refers to the inability of many women to advance in their occupations, as they are mostly employed in labour-intensive sectors with precarious working conditions and low wages, characterised by scarce opportunities for promotion.

This project updates the study on the sticky floor of women in the city of Barcelona, coordinated by Barcelona Activa (October 2019), with the following specific objectives:

a) Evolution of the sticky floor in the labour market: analysis of trends and presentation of key indicators related to the four sectors covered by the study (building cleaning activities, hospitality, catering, and home care services), taking into account elements such as the impact of the labour reform implemented after the 2019 study.

b) Diagnosis of the evolution of perceptions among the groups most affected by the sticky floor in the analysed subsectors, based on the same indicators and other factors such as the impact of AI and/or other emerging dynamics.

c) Definition of recommendations, proposals, and tools to improve employment conditions in these sectors.
