Tobacco use is a preventable health problem linked to 25% of deaths before age 65 in developed countries and the principal cause of premature death in these populations. Tobacco is also a substance that produces dependence due to nicotine, comparable to that produced opiates, amphetamines and cocaine. The primary health care center gives a great opportunity to address the tobacco consumption problem. Almost anyone visit it at least once a year. Not only is the nicotine dependence the reason why people find it so difficult to quit. Quitting smoking is also a social outcome, product of reflexive activities that emerge and reinforce the context. Is from this point of view that we want to deeply understand how people interpret and give meaning to quit smoking in the health context. The overall objective of this thesis is to describe the process of quitting smoking in the context of primary health care.
