The downward spiral of youth unemployment

Abstract: Young people are one of the population groups most affected by unemployment. A research team at the UAB has analysed the effect of long-term unemployment on the support networks that young people use to find a new job. The results: disengagement from the world of work leads to the loss of the most useful contacts, which are those obtained while working. In addition, inequality factors such as socio-economic status and other variables such as gender and education influence the ability to acquire new contacts and can have negative effects on future employment prospects.
