This doctoral thesis examines the relationship between inequality dynamics and the health of the Spanish population through a life-course and social-mobility perspective. Its main objective is to identify the mechanisms through which both an individual’s social position and their social origin influence health.
The research combines several methodological approaches, including analyses of health inequalities by occupation, educational level, sex and region; an intergenerational perspective; Diagonal Reference Models (DRM); Structural Equation Modelling (SEM); and sociological discourse analysis. The findings identify social gradients and mechanisms explaining health inequalities in Spain, encompassing both social origin and social destination.
