Joan Miquel Verd Pericàs

Full professor

Professor of Sociology and Research Methods at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).

BA in Political Science and Sociology (1994) and in Economics and Business Studies (1996) at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). PhD in Sociology (2002), with the thesis entitled “Itinerario biográfico, recursos formativos y empleo. Una aproximación integrada de carácter teórico y metodológico” (Biographic trajectory, training resources and employment. A theoretical and methodological integrated approach).

He is the director of the Sociological Research Centre on Everyday Life and Work (QUIT) at the UAB since 2013 and a member of the Institute for Labour Studies (IET) since its foundation in 2011.

Areas of specialization

His research interests are placed on the fields of sociology of labour and research methods.

In the first of these two fields his research has focused on the relations between employment and social protection; the labour market trajectories of the employed population, and particularly of the young population; the organization of work processes; the role of social capital and social networks in the labour market; and in the relationship between training, competencies and employment.

Methodologically, his interests are focused on narrative and biographic analysis; the analysis of texts and discourse; social network analysis; mixed designs and methods; the use of computer tools in qualitative analyses; and on ethnographic approaches to work.
