Dafne Muntanyola i Saura

Associate Professor

Dafne Muntanyola-Saura (PhD 2008) is currently Associate Professor  and Vice-Dean of Communication, Professionalization and TFG of the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology at the UAB.

She has been a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Nice, in the department of Cognitive Science at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and at the Autonomous University of Madrid with Caja Madrid, Fulbright-MEC and Alianza scholarships and instructor at UCSD.

She has published more than 40 papers in international journals, half in English and the rest in Spanish, Catalan, French and Italian, in journals such as Theory & Psychology, Etnografia e Ricerca Qualitativa, Revue de Synthèse, Quality & Quantity; Gender, Work & Organization, and Visual Sociology  among others. She has interviewed and translated Cicourel and Kirsh (2007), she is on the  board of Revista Internacional de Sociología and Debats, and is fond of writing book reviews.

She is currently co-director of the Board of the Sociology of the Arts Committee of the European Sociological Association (ESA) and will organize the next Midterm conference on Sociology of the Arts in UAB in 2024

Areas of specialization

The backbone of her research is building an integrated model on expert and artistic knowledge in teamwork in apparently unrelated environments such as hospitals, TV, sports, visual arts or dance.

Her research crosses over the disciplinary boundaries of cognitive science and sociology of the arts and culture. She explores patterns of distributed decision-making with methodologies such as Social Network Analysis and Video-Aided Ethnography.
