ANTONIO MARTÍN ARTILES

University Professor

University Professor Dr. Antonio Martín Artiles is appointed to the Department of Sociology at the UAB and coordinador of the Official Master’s Degree in Social Policy, Employment and Welfare. He has been the Director of the Institute for Labour Studies (IET) at UAB from 2012 to 2019.

He studied at the Institut Superior de Ciències Socials de Barcelona (ICESB) where received a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science and also at University of Barcelona where obtained Bachelor’s Degree in History and Cultural Anthropology. Afterwards he obtained Ph.D. Sociology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) on January of 1991 with the thesis Flexibilidad y relaciones laborales. He is teaching sociology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona as full professor. During many years he worked as researcher with trade unions.

Areas of specialization

As a researcher he is currently involved on research around the sociology of work industrial relations, labour market policies and the relationship among time, work and everyday life. Special attention is paid in his research activity to the new demands of reorganisation of time, with reference to the reconciliation among working time and family time. Some of his research is devoted to the crisis of employment, with special reference to work organisation, flexibility and the changes in the labour market.
