Under the theme Global Sociology in Turbulent Times, the Congress will bring together sociologists from around the world to examine the profound social, political and economic transformations shaping contemporary societies and to discuss the role of sociology in understanding and responding to a period of global uncertainty and change.

The ISA World Congress of Sociology is one of the largest international gatherings in the discipline. Its scientific programme brings together the ISA Research Committees, Working Groups and Thematic Groups, covering a broad range of fields and providing a major space for international exchange, comparative research and interdisciplinary debate.

The Congress will address a wide range of sociological perspectives and contemporary challenges, including transformations in work and employment, social inequalities, economic and political change, migration, gender, organisations, social movements and collective action, among many other areas of sociological research.

The 2027 Congress will be held entirely on-site in Gwangju. The Call for Abstracts will be open from 3 August to 14 October 2026. Abstracts must be submitted to a specific session within an ISA Research Committee, Working Group or Thematic Group.

Founded in 1949 under the auspices of UNESCO, the International Sociological Association promotes international cooperation in sociological research and brings together sociologists and sociological organisations from across the world.
