The Barcelona City Council has been a pioneer in promoting an organizational culture committed to ensuring equality between women and men in all areas, stages, and circumstances of life, as established by Law 17/2015 of July 21, on effective equality between women and men.
To move towards an egalitarian society that leaves behind the patriarchal, androcentric, and sexist model in which we still live, it is necessary to make efforts not only to promote equality towards citizens but also internally, by setting an example within the municipal organization itself.
Within this framework, in 2017, the study “Women and the Gender Pay Gap in the Barcelona City Council” was carried out jointly by the Barcelona City Council and the team from the Centre for Sociological Studies on Everyday Life and Work (QUIT) at the UAB, with the QUIT team assuming the technical advisory and supervisory role for the study.
Within the framework of the III Equality Plan between Women and Men 2020–2023, which has been extended until December 2025, a new report on the gender pay gap is proposed, aiming to develop the following actions:
– Technical advice and supervision of the study “Women and the Gender Pay Gap in the Barcelona City Council”, updating methodologies to incorporate new visions and perspectives.
– Technical supervision of data analysis.
– Support in designing a study framework to be used in the coming years.
– Identification of the data required to understand the situation, determine possible causes, and propose corrective measures.
– Supervision of the preparation of the report and recommendations.
