Sexual and gender-based harassment in the world of work: the persistence of a phenomenon that is verbally rejected but not perceived

Abstract: The Centre for Sociological Studies on Everyday Life and Work (QUIT) has carried out a qualitative analysis with the aim of identifying, describing and explaining the factors that make sexual and gender-based harassment in the workplace possible. The results show that men and women reject it at a discursive level, but often do not identify it as such. The cause: the socio-cultural background of a patriarchal society, with its associated gender roles and stereotypes. Thus, the persistence of a phenomenon with endemic characteristics makes it difficult to denounce and eradicate it. The study concludes by proposing four areas for action.
