Contacts and environment: essential tools for accessing the world of work

Abstract: Having a network of personal contacts to find and get a job is vital to access the world of work, especially for young people with insertion difficulties. A study carried out by the Centre for Sociological Studies on Everyday Life and Work – QUIT of the UAB, has evaluated the environments in which useful contacts are acquired. The results show that the most important are those generated in the world of work, in education and training, and those that allow access to contacts of a more favoured social level. Some of the conclusions highlight the need to promote support policies and the creation of spaces that transcend the closest social environment.
